It was a very animated and excited Rob Storey and his Firepower Racing team post race at Oran Park Raceway over the weekend after they were crowned the NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Champion for 2007. After qualifying third, and then finishing second behind championship rival and defending champion Ben Morley in both race one and two, Storey was able to break through for victory in the third and final race and seal his NSW State Championship fate. This was the perfect and a very much deserving way for Storey to take out the NSW State Championship, as both Morley and he have battled it out throughout the six rounds of the championship, and both drivers have given one another respect and raced in a clean and professional manner.

“Both Ben and I have been close all year, and he is a pleasure to race with, even though we were very close to one another, we never really had any incidents, other than the odd rub or two in the heat of the battle.” Storey paid tribute to his Firepower Racing team, and also the wonderful efforts of the Anglo Australian Motorsport team too, and said it was simply an awesome feeling to be able to achieve the goal he set out to achieve from the beginning of the year. “It’s great to be able to reward everyone behind the scenes for all their efforts by bringing home the NSW State Championship, as they have supported me 100% all year,” he enthused. “Without the support of a strong team around you, you are going to struggle, and thankfully enough my team have been there all year and we haven’t lost sight of the goal we set out to achieve, and that was to win the NSW State Championship.” Driving the Spirit WL07 all year Storey was able to record the first race win in the world for the model, and now he has also added the very first championship too. The main focus now is to plan for next year where Storey is looking to step up to the National Formula Ford Championship. Storey in 2007 is supported by the following organisations: Firepower, Bishop Manufacturing Technology, Sparco Race Wear, The Fastline Group, Road and Race Performance, Copyset Printing Services, Neil Thompson Smash Repairs, and Anglo Australian Motorsport. -ENDS RELEASE-
