The fantastic start to the 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship continued for Ryan Simpson when he claimed victory during the second round over the weekend at his home track Eastern Creek Raceway.

After dominating the opening round of the NSW Championship, the Anglo Australian Motorsport driver in only his first year in the Formula Ford category didn’t have it all his own way and once again his main opposition came from Anglo Australian Motorsport team-mate Tom Tweedie.

Simpson managed to qualify on pole position and then he went on to take out victory in the opening race on Saturday afternoon in a battle that was only decided in the closing stages of the last lap. In the second race the tables were turned when Simpson was handed his first defeat of the year after Tweedie managed to break through for his first NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship race victory.

The battle between Simpson and Tweedie continued in the third and final where the pair fought tooth and nail throughout the eight lap journey, but it was Simpson who crossed the line in first position.

“Both Tom [Tweedie] and I fought hard all weekend long and very little separated us, and not once did we touch, as we both have a mutual respect for one another, not only because we are team-mates, but as individual drivers,” Simpson expressed

“To take out back-to-back round wins is a fantastic achievement, especially with the pressure coming from my team-mate, and our main goal for this year is to take out the NSW Championship and we are so far on track to do so.”

Round three of the NSW Championship is to be held at Oran Park Raceway on the weekend of June 21 - 22.

Simpson would like to say a special thanks to Parramatta Smash Repairs and Anglo Australian Motorsport for all their support in 2008.
