Three from three wins that was the scorecard that read for Ryan Simpson after he made what can only be described as a sensational debut during the opening round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship.

Driving for the Anglo Australian Motorsport team, Simpson, aboard his # 16 Parramatta Smash Repairs supported Comtec Spirit WL07, not only won all three races at Wakefield Park Raceway last weekend, but also qualified on pole position and now holds down a handy lead in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship point standings.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting the weekend to turn out like it did but after qualifying on pole position I knew I had the pace to challenge for race wins, so to come away with three wins from as many starts is wonderful,” a jubilant Simpson said.

“The main aim for the weekend was to just learn as much as I could, and I certainly did that, and I was kept honest in both race two and three by my team-mate Tom Tweedie as we ended up having a really close and exciting battle in the final race.”

Now with the opening round out of the way, Simpson is now looking towards the NSW Championship from here on in.

“I have proven that I can be a championship contender after the weekend and the goal now is to maintain the lead in the championship throughout the entire year,” expressed a confident Simpson.

“The past four years I have spent in Formula Vee and been quite successful after taking out two National Championships and two NSW Championships, and I’m looking at continuing that trend in my step into the Formula Ford ranks.”

In terms of goals for the future, Simpson is just taking each year as it comes and hasn’t really set any lofty goals.

“At this stage I just want to take things step-by-step and after the Formula Vee I wanted to take on a new challenge and Formula Ford’s certainly provides its fair share,” said the 20-year-old.

“Stepping from the Formula Vee’s up to Formula Ford is a totally new ball game, and it’s kind of like starting all over again, but so far so far good and it’s great to have an experienced team like Anglo Australian Motorsport behind me as it makes the learning process that so much easier.”

The second round of the NSW Championship is set down for Eastern Creek Raceway on May 24 – 25.

Simpson would like to say a special thanks to Parramatta Smash Repairs and Anglo Australian Motorsport for all their support in 2008.
