Championship Sealed for Burges with another Victory: PDF Print E-mail

With one round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship remaining, Anglo Australian Motorsport team driver Leigh Burges over the weekend at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway clinched his fourth round victory of the year during the fifth and penultimate and in the process wrap up the NSW Championship point standings battle.

In each of his round wins during this year’s NSW Championship Burges, driving the # 33 Anglo Australian Motorsport Comtec Spirit K08, has managed to come away with a clean sweep of each of the three races and last weekend at Wakefield Park that trend continued. Despite missing out on pole position by qualifying second, Burges was able to continue on with his winning form by taking out all three races and that extended his winning tally to 12 (from a total of 15 races).

By virtue of his fourth round victory within the NSW Championship Burges wrapped up the title. Aside from sealing his NSW Championship fate Burges was pleased to bounce back after a disappointing run at the 2.2km circuit earlier this year during the second round.

“Winning the NSW Championship with one round to go is a great feeling and it certainly releases some pressure but so was returning to Wakefield Park and taking out all three races,” Burges expressed. “Wakefield Park is a very difficult circuit and it can sometimes catch you out. We worked every hard throughout the weekend to continue to improve our speed and consistency. I was determined to not let what happened at the previous round at the circuit occur again and that focus allowed me to wrap up the NSW Championship too.”

Making it a double celebration for the weekend it was a clean sweep of the podium for the Anglo Australian Motorsport team with Burges winning, debut driver Richard Goddard and rookie Adam Leung completing the podium in second and third place respectively.

Now with one round left in the NSW Championship Burges isn’t about to let up and just make up the numbers during the final round at Oran Park Raceway.

“I want to finish the NSW Championship the way I started it, with a round victory,” stated Burges. “Another important aspect is that this will be the last ever Formula Ford race meeting held at Oran Park Raceway. Formula Ford and Oran Park Raceway have a rich history and I’d dearly love to be the last ever winner in a Formula Ford there.”

The sixth and final round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be held on the weekend of October 31 and November 1 at Oran Park Raceway (Narellan, NSW). This will be the final ever NSW Championship round to be held at Oran Park Raceway with the circuit closing forever at the end of the year.

Burges would like to thank Tim Beale and the whole Anglo Australian Motorsport team for all their support along with Spirit Racing Cars.
