The impressive debut year for CAMS Rising Star driver Daniel Erickson was completed at his home circuit of Oran Park Raceway over the weekend, with him securing third place in the NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship and Rookie of the Year point score honours with a fifth place finish in the final round.

Although disappointed to miss out on an opportunity to record his fourth podium finish of the year, Erickson was pleased to have wrapped up third place in the NSW State Championship final point standings.

“My whole aim heading into the weekend was to finish the NSW State Championship in the third, and although it would have been nice to have a podium finish, things didn’t go our way over the course of the round,” Erickson said.

Overall Erickson has enjoyed a fabulous debut year in Formula Ford, which has seen him finish on the podium twice at Eastern Creek Raceway and once at Wakefield Park Raceway, on his way to third place in the final NSW State Championship point standings.

“There are plenty of positives to come from my first year in Formula Ford, and on the other side of the coin, the negatives, have only helped my learning curve, as I have been able to overcome them and improved my driving as a result,” he admitted.

“As the year has gone on the better I have performed and my results indicate that, it was just a matter of me remaining consistent and doing as many laps as possible, as that [laps] is something you cannot get enough of.”

Most impressively from Erickson’s debut year in Formula Ford is the fact that he has only recorded a single DNF all year.

Erickson’s plans for next year are to step into the National Formula Ford Championship.
