Firepower Motorsport driver Rob Storey has etched closer to taking out the 2007 NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship after last weekend taking out the penultimate round at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway.

There was simply no stopping Storey as he stretched his championship lead over reigning champion and main rival Ben Morley by taking out not only all three races, but also qualifying, which duplicated his round five performance at Wakefield Park Raceway last month.

As one would expect Storey is naturally thrilled with his current form as he eyes the NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship crown.

“To take out back-to-back round wins in similar fashion is definitely pleasing, especially with the championship winding down,” the 21-year-old explained.

“The major difference between now and earlier in the year is me as a driver, as the car has always been strong, it was just a matter of me being calmer, and my results have been great as a result of that.”

Storey continued on by saying that his Anglo Australian Motorsport supported Spirit WL07 has been a wonderful car and its results out on the circuit have indicated this. Further evidence of the pace of Storey and the Spirit WL07 was in qualifying where he was eight tenths quicker than his nearest rival, and it was a good enough lap time, 1:38.0167, to be amongst the top five in qualifying during this year’s National Championship round.

“I cannot speak highly enough of the Spirit WL07 and over the past two rounds the car has been faultless, which is not only testament to the efforts of my Anglo Australian Motorsport team, but also the high quality of the machinery I’m driving,” he said.

“The more time spent in the car, the better my results are, as my past two rounds have seen me undefeated, and going into the final round next month I dearly would like to continue my winning streak.”

Charging towards his very first NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship, saying that Storey is finishing the year with a wet sail would be a major understatement.

The final round of the NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be fought out at Oran Park Raceway on October 27 – 28.

Storey in 2007 is supported by the following organisations: Firepower, Smith’s Engine Research, Bishop Manufacturing Technology, Sparco Race Wear, The Fastline Group, Road and Race Performance, Copyset Printing Services, Neil Thompson Smash Repairs, and Anglo Australian Motorsport.
