There was no question about it, the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Oran Park Raceway last weekend has seen youngster Nathan Morcom make yet another step forward.

The 16-year-old Anglo Australian Motorsport driver was on track for his first round podium finish of his rookie year only to finish back in ninth place in the third and final race due to contact from another competitor during the closing stages while placed in third.

Morcom had earlier in the weekend qualified and finished the opening race in third spot, and finished second in the second race, and was on track for another podium finish during the third race only to be denied of such a result.

“My weekend up until the final laps of the final race had been great, and it’s disappointing to have a podium finish taken away from me due to another drivers mistake,” commented the # 71 Rondo Building Services supported Comtec Spirit K08.

“As disappointing as it is, I’m now looking towards the next round, as I certainly made a number of gains throughout the weekend and I have grown in confidence as well, as I have now proven that I have the ability to both qualify and finish races inside the Top 3.”

Morcom’s weekend result has now moved him up to sixth in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship point standings.

The fourth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be played out back at Oran Park Raceway on the weekend of July 26 – 27, and Morcom is most certainly looking forward to this round with even greater enthusiasm.

In 2008 Morcom is proudly supported by Rondo Building Supplies, Plastamasta Smithfield – Campbelltown and Canberra, and NSW Stretch Ceilings.
