With 16 entries lining up for the fiercely competitive field, the championship’s heavy hitters are preparing for an all-out assault on the points haul with round one winner and defending champion Ben Morley leading the pack. The Icon Motorsport steerer – currently fifth in the championship on points – will look to build on his round one victory title despite his uncharacteristic first race spin, and is firmly focussed on improving the Spectrum’s set up at the 3.93km Sydney circuit and tasting more success. One of the forces to beat this weekend will be current championship leader Scott Pye who is also hoping to continue his strong start to the year at round two. Despite consistent effort at the opening round resulted in three top five finishes including a win, the CAMS Rising Star standout will line up alongside teammate Daniel Erickson who both have put other competitors on notice so far with stellar performances in their debut year. After Anglo Australian Motorsport’s history-making race win at the opening round last month where Rob Storey became the first driver to take a race victory aboard a Spirit WL07 model, Storey will look to go one better than his current second placing standing on the championship ladder. Team Sydney driver Glenn Welsh will also be one to watch after the quiet achiever scored as high as second in his confident first run of the Team Sydney owned Listec Wil 05. After a character building round in Goulburn, rookie Tom Tweedie aims to consolidate more top 10 finishes as will fellow newcomer Tom Ballard (Mygale SJ95) and Chris Goodman (Spectrum 010B) who is eager for better luck after struggling with mechanical woes at the opening round. Strong performance from regaining state champions Jake Chapman (SA) and Martin Swindells (QLD) will apply the pressure on the rest of the field along with interstate competitor Tony Chapman (Van Diemen RF01Z), while newcomers Bruce McCabe (Van Diemen RF98) and David Holland (Reynard 89) will make their debut in the championship at round two with high hopes of finishing in the top half of the field. Current NSW Formula Ford Championship point standings (after one completed round):
1 Scott Pye - 76 points |
