The CAMS Board has approved the use of E85 ethanol blended fuel for motor sport conducted within Australia, providing the potential for a reduction in the competition costs for a significant number of CAMS members.
E85 (a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% unleaded petrol) has been included in the definition of Commercial Fuel under the existing CAMS system, which will permit the use of this fuel in many motor sport categories across the country. This change is effective immediately.
The introduction of E85 will provide motor sport competitors with a cost-effective alternative to some of the more exotic racing fuels that are currently on the market.
Other benefits of the fuel are reduced CO² emissions and increased renewable resources.
CAMS CEO Graham Fountain said, “This change is consistent with our desire to focus on affordability for competitors to participate in the sport and to move towards a more environmentally friendly approach to our activities.
“These are both key areas that remain at the forefront of our activities in 2009.”
