It was once again another strong performance by rookie Formula Ford driver Nathan Morcom when he recorded a pair of third places and a fourth place during the fourth round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship at Oran Park Raceway last weekend.
For the first time this year Morcom returned to a circuit that he has competed on previously after the third round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship was held at the Oran Park circuit the month previous.
The consistency and the pace of the 16-year-old Anglo Australian Motorsport were clearly evident once again around the Oran Park circuit and this where he has the most experience. Morcom qualified third and finished race one and two in that same position, but a spin during the third race whilst battling for third saw him finish in fourth place.
Leading up to the third race, a heavy thunderstorm hit the Oran Park circuit and that consequently forced officials to move the third race from the Grand Prix to the South circuit due to flooding and the final race was also shortened to only five laps. Morcom’s weekend results now see him move up to fifth in the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship point standings.
“I was pleased with how the weekend panned out, as I was able to improve my lap times consistently around Oran Park from the last round and I have moved further up the championship ladder,” said Morcom.
“The main focus for the remainder of the championship now is to get through remaining rounds on the podium in all three races, and I’m confident that I can achieve it, as I have been close on many occasions in recent rounds.”
Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway on August 16 – 17 is where the fifth and penultimate round of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship is to be run.
In 2008 Morcom is proudly supported by Rondo Building Supplies, Plastamasta Smithfield – Campbelltown and Canberra, and NSW Stretch Ceilings.
