They have been the two main players in the New South Wales (NSW) State Formula Ford 1600 Championship, and this weekend (October 27 – 28) at Oran Park Raceway Rob Storey and defending champion Ben Morley will fight it out, like they have for the majority of this year, in the final round for the 2007 championship honours.

A total of 23 points splits leader Storey and second place Morley in the NSW State Championship point standings, and it is the former that sits in the box seat, whilst Morley is going to hope that some divine intervention comes into play in order for him to claim back-to-back championships.

The term ‘It’s not over until the fat lady sings’ is ringing through the minds of both Storey and Morley, as Storey defends, and Morley plays the hunting game for success.

Oran Park Raceway is a circuit that Storey and Morley have been successful at in the past, so they are both heading into the final round at the 2.7km Grand Prix circuit feeling confident of being able to taste the victory spoils. It is Morley that has had the most recent success at Oran Park Raceway after he dominated the fourth round by claiming pole position and winning all three races over that weekend, which saw Storey forced to play second fiddle in each of the three races, but it has been Storey that has blitzed the field in the last two rounds.

Although the attention over the weekend will be on the battle between Storey and Morley for the NSW State Championship victory, there are a number of other drivers that are aiming to knock off the two championship contenders, those being CAMS Rising Star drivers Daniel Erickson and Scott Pye, along with Chris Goodman, Tom Tweedie, and Team Sydney ace Glenn Welch, and the five above mentioned drivers are capable of causing a boil over.

Interstate podium runners in the form of Jake Chapman and Andrew Hagen will not be contesting the final round due to their overseas open wheel commitments.

The likes of Tom Ballard, Queenslander Tony Chapman, Matt McGill, Derryn Harrison, Bruce McCabe, William Vass, Dave Wood, Jason Liddell, Paul Brownie, Ken Birt, are amongst the other entries eager to finish 2007 on a strong note.

Qualifying and race one will make up the program on Saturday, whilst race two and three will be fought out on Sunday

Current NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship point standings (after five completed rounds):
1 Rob Storey - 410
2 Ben Morley - 387
3 Daniel Erickson - 312
4 Tom Tweedie - 274
5 Glenn Welch – 239
