The fifth and final round of the 2010 NSW Formula Ford Championship at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway this weekend has attracted the biggest field of the year and it shapes up to be a great way to round out the year.
In what will be the third visit of the year to the fast flowing Eastern Creek Raceway circuit, the NSW Championship finale is certainly going to be jam packed with plenty of close and exciting racing action expect amongst the classes that have attracted 25 entries for the weekend. The battle for the NSW Championship honours in the ‘Kent’ class is still very much alive between Anglo Australian Motorsport team-mates Adam Leung and Richard Goddard. Leung leads Goddard by only a slim margin of eight points, so it could easily come down to the last race of the weekend to settle the NSW Championship honours. Not to be outdone, the likes of Icon Motorsport’s Derryn Harrison, Team Listec driver Russell Newell, Emma Brown, along with newcomers Robert Coulthard, Lawrence Katsidis and James Garley, who although out of NSW Championship winning contention are all looking to finish the year on a solid note. Alan Price, driving for Team Listec, leads the field in the ‘Fiesta’ class from Stefan Borsato driving the Synergy Motorsport Team Spectrum. Although Alan has a handy lead in the points going into the final round both Borsato and Grant Doulman will be keen to impress in this last round of the year. The biggest field amongst the class for this weekend’s NSW Championship finale is the Pre 2000. Jon Collins and Darryl Hall are the pre round favourites in the class and have a strangle hold on class honours, however third is wide open. Sue Hughes, Steve Charman and Robert Coulthard are all in with a shot, but then you cannot discount fellow rivals Jason Liddell, Dave Wood, Lawrence Katsidis, and Jeff Senior. In the ‘Classic’ class Doug Mately holds a safe second in the class, however third place will be hotly contested between Ross Firth, David Grant and Robert Rowe, while in the ‘Historic’ class Greg Watson is the favourite and his challengers will be Norm Vesty and John Tarran. The final round of the NSW Championship is scheduled to begin on Saturday with a qualifying session in the morning and the opening race in the afternoon, and then on Sunday the second race will be in the morning and then the third and final race is to be held in the afternoon.
