After an exciting opening round, the 2010 NSW Formula Ford Championship heads to Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway this weekend (April 10 and 11) for the second round of the year.

Regarded as one of the most technical circuits in the country, the 2.2km Wakefield Park circuit is without a doubt going to test the NSW Championship field across all classes and the driver that comes out on top is certainly going to have had to earn it.

Wakefield Park is the type of circuit that tests a driver’s every skill, as it has a range of tight technical corners, fast following corners and a main straight where regular passing opportunities present themselves.

Leading the charge into the second round of the NSW Championship are the Anglo Australian Motorsport team drivers Richard Goddard and Adam Leung. These two drivers proved that they are certainly going to be the leading contenders for this year’s NSW Championship title after the pair finished in first and second place respectively at the conclusion of the opening round held at Eastern Creek Raceway.

Last year’s Championship contender Daniel Lewis is returning to the fold this weekend after sitting out Round 1. No doubt Lewis will be aiming to show his competitiveness has not been lost over the summer break and will take the fight up to Goddard and Leung.

Both Ryan Campbell and Icon Motorsport driver Derryn Harrison had a great battle throughout the opening round for the final spot of the podium during the opening round and at this weekend’s round they will be aiming to get the upper hand over one another. Harrison heads to Wakefield Park circuit with added confidence as it is one circuit where he has a good history and he’ll be looking to continue that trend.

Despite not being right up there in podium at the opening round, drivers such as Russell Newell, impressive rookie from the Anglo Australian Motorsport stable Jon Collins, another Anglo Australian Motorsport pilot in Steve Charman along with John Pereira and rookie drivers Emma Brown, James Garley and Darryl Hall have all set their sights on solid results this weekend.

The ‘Fiesta’ class made its debut in the NSW Championship at last month’s opening round and it was Synergy Motorsport’s Daniel Cotton that took all before him in what was a perfect weekend. Leading the field in all three races, Cotton is sure to be up to speed after a successful time in the Australian Formula Ford Championship at the recent Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Fellow Synergy Motorsport driver Stefan Borsato is focused on building on what was an impressive NSW Formula Ford debut. After learning the ropes in the 2009 Victorian Formula Ford Championship, Borsato is improving greatly with the level of confidence he is gaining from his team, lead by Justin Cotter.

Listec Racing driver Alan Price showed plenty of fight at the opening round and is certainly not one to be discounted. Ex V8 Supercar racer Peter Doulman is intending to bounce back after what was a frustrating opening round that was hampered by engine woes.

In the ‘Classic’ class of the NSW Championship, Tom Tweedie dominated proceedings in the opening round and was right up there with the front runners in other classes. Tweedie is a clear favourite to continue that form in the class and fellow class runners in Doug Matley and Ross Firth are aiming to improve on their opening round performances and move closer to their main rival.

Greg Watson made an undefeated start to the NSW Championship in the ‘Historic’ class at the opening round and his goals are to duplicate that result this weekend, while Stephen Weller is looking to bounce back with a strong result after a disappointing opening round.

The second round of the NSW Championship is going to kick off on Saturday with a qualifying session and the opening race, and on Sunday both race two and three will be fought out.
