Despite the Championship already being secured by Morley, the battle for second and third is guaranteed to be close as CAMS Rising Star Kristian Lindbom, Nick Lowe and Stephen Payne will fight for podium positions behind winner Morley. A mere 14 points currently separate second and fourth place in the NSW Championship. Lindbom has been amongst the pointy end of the field throughout the year and with more seat time, he is looking for his first victory in the NSW Championship. In addition to contesting the Victorian Championship recently, Lindbom scored two race wins at Sandown International Motor Raceway, and is set to continue his good form at Eastern Creek. On the other hand, Lowe and Payne have shown plenty of speed this year and will be sure to take the fight for second place in the Championship right down to the wire. In saying that, newly crowned NSW Champion Morley wants to finish his successful 2006 campaign the way he started - with a round victory. His most recent blinding qualifying times and race pace prove that he has the goods to do so. After a luckless 2006, Queensland-based Kyle Wood showed everyone a clean pair of heels during the fifth and penultimate round at Goulburn's Wakefield Park Raceway by scoring his maiden round victory. Going on form, Wood is the favourite at the Eastern Creek Raceway, a circuit where he has previously performed strongly. He is in good shape for claiming back to back round victories to cap off the year. Although race wins might be a little tough to come by, Leigh Burges, Andrew Taite, Matthew Howard and Glenn Welch are looking to get amongst the top three contenders on the weekend. At Wakefield Park last month both Burges and Taite finished on the podium and they will no doubt want a repeat performance. The Experienced duo of Howard and Welch can never be discounted as top five challengers in any given round; however, both are undoubtedly aiming for podium places. In fact, it was Welch that upset the form guide by qualifying on pole position during round two at Eastern Creek earlier this year. More drivers setting their sights on being inside the top ten are San Pattis, Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series driver Colin Sieders, Alan Price, Derryn Harrison, Chris Goodman, Daran Martin, Matt McGill and Bradley Cady. The qualifying round (a 15 minute session) and race one (8 laps) will be held on Saturday (September 23), and race two (10 laps) and three (12 laps) on Sunday (September 24).
