As the New South Wales (NSW) State Formula Ford 1600 Championship winds down for 2007, Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway this weekend (September 22 – 23) will play host to the sixth round and with plenty of close and exciting action in store.

Current NSW State Championship leader Rob Storey holds a slender nine point gap over second place and defending NSW State Champion Ben Morley, and there is no doubt that their battle will be one of the highlights of the weekend around the 3.93km Eastern Creek circuit.

Back in May for during the second round at Eastern Creek Raceway there was an intense fight for the winning honours between Morley and Storey, but it was Morley that gained the upper hand and took out the round honours. There is no doubt that Storey wants to get revenge and consolidate his championship lead.

Apart from the Storey and Morley championship fight, one driver to look out for, especially on the back of his most recent round performance when he finished in a fine second place, CAMS Rising Star driver Daniel Erickson is aiming to move closer to winning contention and taste victory for the very first time in his promising but short career.

There is no doubt that the likes of Queenslander Andrew Hagen, Team Sydney driver Glenn Welch, newly crowned CAMS Victorian State Champion Jake Chapman, and the returning CAMS Rising Star driver Scott Pye, who was unable to compete at the previous round due to personal issues, are aiming to fight it out for the podium honours.

Chris Goodman and Tom Tweedie are two drivers that have been amongst the top five on a regular basis in the NSW State Championship and they are looking to be amongst the podium contenders this weekend, like so many others.

Making their first appearances in the NSW State Championship for this year will be Andrew Taite, John Pereira, and Victorian Gavin Dumas. Entries have also been received for this weekend’s round by car owners Brett Francis and Don Holland, but their driver’s are yet to be confirmed.

Unknown quantities in Michael Caine and James Mann are set to make their debut in the NSW State Championship.

Completing a 23 car field will be Derryn Harrison, Queensland State Championship front runner Tony Chapman, William Vass, youngster Matt McGill, Bruce McCabe, Jason Liddell and Dave Wood.

With the strongest field of the year set to battle it out this weekend and with the Eastern Creek Raceway circuit infamous for its high speeds and fast flowing corners, there is no doubt that there will be action and close battles aplenty this weekend.

Current NSW State Formula Ford 1600 Championship point standings (after four completed rounds):
1 Rob Storey - 320
2 Ben Morley - 309
3 Daniel Erickson - 268
4 Tom Tweedie - 214
5 Jake Chapman – 196

Eastern Creek Raceway is located on Brabham Drive, Eastern Creek.
