The Calendar has been released for the 2009 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship, to be held over 6 rounds and will again cater for Outright, Rookies, Pre-2000, Pre-90 and Historic Cars. Races shall be solely for these cars under the Formula Ford 1600 category.
The organisers of the NSW Formula Ford 1600 championship have worked closely with CAMS to broaden the range of cars eligible to enter the new Racing and Sports car races running on the 2009 Championship programme. This would provide the opportunity in the future for Formula Ford Duratec category cars to be permitted to race at the State Championship meetings as a “Class 1 - Racing Car” within the Racing and Sports Car races. Series organiser Jeff Senior commented that “the 2009 NSW Formula Ford Championship looks to be even stronger than last year’s with many new competitors entering the category, as well as increased interest from Historic Competitors. The appeal of the NSW Championship is continuing with some interstate competitors indicating their attendance”. “There are rumours circulating relating to the possible introduction of Duratec Formula Fords into State Championship Racing” says Senior, “Over the last week, there has been a media release circulating that Duratec Formula Fords will be invited into the 2009 Victorian State Championship meetings; however it is understood that this has not yet received sanctioning from CAMS”. CAMS and the AMRC have been liaising with the Formula Ford Association to identify the ramifications for Formula Ford 1600 competitors and to assess whether it is beneficial for both categories to allow Duratec cars into State level competition. |
