Appendix A - 2008 Formula Ford 1600 NSW Championship

 

A1. ELIGIBILITY

i. The objective of the championship is to promote and foster the competition of racing cars complying with the CAMS regulation for Formula Ford 1600 racing cars. The Formula Ford 1600 NSW Championship is open to all competitors whose vehicles comply with the 2008 Formula Ford 1600 rules or Historic Formula Ford as defined by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS).

ii. Each vehicle competing in the championship shall be registered with the Formula Ford Association Inc and be one for which a certificate of origin has been issued.

iii. Any inspections shall be conducted by the chief scrutineer in accordance with the provisions of the FFA Handbook and the CAMS Manual. A Formula Ford 1600 Eligibility officer may assist the Chief Scrutineer if appointed by the organisers. The Eligibility Officer for the Championship shall be Greig Black or as appointed by the organiser.

A2. CLASS DEFINITION

i. Classes for the Championship shall be as follows:

a. Outright – open to all Formula Ford 1600 racing cars excluding those with historic logbooks.
b. Pre – 2000 – open to Formula Ford 1600 racing cars built prior to 1st January 2000 but after 31st December 1989
c. Pre-90 - open to Formula Ford 1600 racing cars built prior to 1st January, 1990, excluding those with historic logbooks
d. Historic – open to Formula Ford 1600 racing cars with historic logbooks.
e. Masters – open to all Formula Ford 1600 cars with drivers older than 40 years of age

A3. REGISTRATION

i. To be eligible to score points in the championship the registration fee must be received by the organisers before qualifying at the race meeting.

ii. The registration fee for the championship shall be $200 or $50 per round.

iii. The top ten (10) drivers from the 2006 and 2007 Australian Formula Ford Championship shall be ineligible to score points in the championship.

iv. In addition to the registration fee, additional fees may be levied on all competitors to cover specific costs associated with the championship.

A4. CATEGORY ORGANISERS

i. The organisers of the championship shall be the NSW Formula Four 1600 Club, herein referred to as “the Organisers".

A5. POINTSCORE

i. Points for each race of the championship shall be awarded as follows:

1st 30 points 11th 10 points 2nd 26 points 12th 9 points 3rd 24 points 13th 8 points 4th 22 points 14th 7 points 5th 20 points 15th 6 points 6th 18 points 16th 5 points 7th 16 points 17th 4 points 8th 14 points 17th 3 points 9th 12 points 19th 2 points 10th 11 points 20th 1 point

ii. The Championship shall be won by the driver attaining the highest number of points in the rounds scheduled in the Championship Sporting Regs. All rounds count towards the title.

iii. The outright point score shall be used for each class point score with the relevant cars collecting the points to twentieth in the class.

iv. In the event of a tie on placings in the Championship, awards shall be determined by comparison of the number of first placings gained in the rounds. If then not resolved, comparison of the number of second placings, then third placings etc. Then if after all comparisons are effected and the award is still not determined, the relative placings in the last round, second last round, etc shall be the decider.

v. Due to different tyre, weight and engine regulations Historic Formula Ford cars will not be eligible for outright points

A6. AWARDS

i. Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd outright, as defined at clause A2, shall be presented at the CAMS NSW Presentation Dinner. The organiser may have a separate trophy presentation at a time to be set.

ii. Annual awards shall be given in addition to those presented by the promoters of the individual race meetings as follows:- Trophies shall be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the classes nominated in para.A.2(i).

iii. A minimum of three (3) cars must compete in the class to be awarded Championship trophies. A minimum of three (3) championship rounds must be competed by a driver to be eligible for trophies.

iv. Prize money will be dependent on a Championship sponsor.

v. Additional Awards may be given by the organisers to each class, subject to sponsorship support.

A7. COMPETITION NUMBERS

i. The number 1 shall be reserved for the sole use of the outright winner the previous year's championship who for 2008 is Rob Storey.

ii. Competitors may otherwise request a competition number from the organiser, which shall be allocated for their use at each round of the championship.

iii. A Driver registered for the NSW championship shall have precedence over a non-registered driver having the same race number.

iv. Number sizes shall be as per the Formula Ford 1600 section of the CAMS manual

A8. QUALIFYING

i. The competitors shall be grided in the dummy grid prior to the qualifying session in the order of the qualifying results from the previous round. If there are drivers entered who did not set a qualifying time at the previous round they shall be grided at the rear of the field in order of championship points.

A9. RACES

i. Unless otherwise approved by CAMS, each round of the Championship will be made up of three races of a minimum of ten minutes duration, expressed as a number of laps appropriate to the host circuit in the supplementary regulations of the event. One of the three races is to be run on the Saturday of the race meeting. The length of the races may vary in length within the round or championship.

A10. CHAMPIONSHIP LIVERY

i. Competitors shall carry championship sponsors decals as nominated by the organisers. These decals are to be placed in a clearly visible location when viewed from ten metres away either directly in front or from the either side perpendicular to the cockpit opening. Decals are not to be placed on horizontal surfaces or behind wheels when viewed from the side.

ii. Failure to comply with 10.1 shall render the competitor ineligible for points at any rounds where the decals are not carried and/or clearly visible.

A11. TYRES {amended effective Round 3}

i. The Chief scrutineer will be a Judge of Fact in relation to any decision relating to a breach of these tyre regulations.

ii. No more that six (6) tyres may be used for qualifying and racing at each round, of which a maximum of four (4) tyres can be new tyres, and two (2) must be used tyres. A competitor may only nominate four (4) new tyres if they wish.

iii. A used tyre is defined as a tyre which has been nominated for that competitor on a tyre nomination form at a previous form at a previous round of the 2008 NSW Formula Ford 1600 Championship. All other tyres are deemed to be new tyres.

iv. Entrants will be required to nominate the identification numbers of each of the tyres which they propose to use, on a form provided by the organisers, to be completed and handed to the scrutineers no less than (60) minutes prior to the scheduled commencement f the qualifying session. Tyre identification numbers will be checked, at random, during the meeting to ensure that they correspond with the numbers notified by the competitor. Scrutineers may mark the nominated tyres for ease of identification. Only tyres carrying the appropriate marks are permitted for qualifying and at the start of each race.

v. If a nominated tyre is damaged it may only be replaced by a tyre of a similar wear and only at the sole discretion of the chief scrutineer.

vi. If the race director declares the track conditions to be wet, competitors ay use unmarked tyres during that session or race.

A12. PARC FERME

i. During each race meeting in the Championship, cars may be impounded in the designated Parc Ferme and must not be removed for any purpose without the permission of the Technical Commissioner or Chief Scrutineer. Only the driver of the competing car is permitted to accompany the car in the Parc Ferme area. Cars may be weighed at any time.
